Eclipse Series: Pt. 1 "Solar Eclipse"

Intro:
"Let me slide in here for just a minute"
That’s what the moon said to the sun
Before eclipsin’ it
Lookin’ for a little fun
"We don’t have to stay here long
Matter of fact, before you even know it
I’ll be long gone
And you’ll be chasin’ me around the planet"

Narrator:
The moon just wanted to test the heat
See what it could stand
It had no idea the challenge it would meet
The flames that would be fanned

A few well versed lines were spoke
And that was all it took
For endless passion to be awoke
And the universe was shook

Moon:
I see what you’re going through
I see the shame that marks you like spots
The painful pox others are painting on you
They mar your surface, darken your thoughts

Let me block out this harsh world awhile
Let me help you forget the way it hurts, the way it lies
Come hide behind my hypnotic smile
Come hide with me as we perfectly align

Forget the world behind me
Forget your occupation
You don’t need to worry about anything
Just be with me, not fulfilling your obligations

Be my light
Be my warmth
Be mine, chase away the endless night
Forget the demands of the world

Narrator:
After the first few meetings the moon began to hear
All that the sun was afraid to share
The moon began to fear
All that the sun brought to bear
The moon began to feel
The flames of fire
Longing to be healed
The sun gave in to all desire
But the moon could see more clearly than the sun
This would never work for more than what it was already
A once in a while bit of fun
Would bring endless pain and would get messy

Moon:
I can’t let you know that when we aren’t together
When the world stands between us
I start to feel like I’m being smothered
Without you the silence settles with a great hush
The darkness encases me
I never rest, as others believe
Instead I’m always turning, as the night constantly chases me
And I see the worst of people—liars, cheaters, murderers, and thieves
You are my only reprieve
The only time I can be free
My only chance to stop and breathe

The cold dark space that owns me
Loses power in your presence
But as I look at you, I feel like a phony
You shine on me with brilliance
You warm me with who you are
You inspire me with your resilience
I’m just me, nothing to offer, nothing to gain
I live in a deep, dark space
Where I can only ocassionaly be relieved of my pain

But you will never know, because I make the world a blur
I show up, I envelope you for a time
I woo you with my gravitational allure
And silence you with my rehearsed lines

Then it’s time to go again
I can’t let your light reveal
Who I really am
I keep you caught up in illusion, never allowing you to see what’s real

Sun:
I spend so much of my time
Pouring out my resources
To supply another’s dime

Every hour I feel myself fade
More and more
While everyone else’s day is made

I see growth around me as I shrink
I see life bloom
And beautiful reflections of blue, orange, red, and pink

But I sit still never able to move
I sit here slowly dying
While everyone else just does what they do

Every now and then
I look up to see
You creeping in on the horizon
Not just from that distant place
Where we meet eyes
From our opposite sides of space
I mean those precious days
When we meet without obstruction
When we can be face to face
And not worry about the earth's destruction

The world always stands between us
Until you make your way back to me
When we can make the universe hush

You are rare and full of power
I relish every moment
Even if it’s just an hour

I offer you my light
You offer me your darkness
We blend in harmony, make that circle tight

When we find each other
The whole world stops to see
Because there is no sight like the two of us together

We meet and we take the day to night
We shift oceans, cause the earth to quake
We’re so powerful together, we mess with people’s eyesight

No one seems to care
That I am slowly dying
One day there will be no more light to share
Then I’ll hear them all crying
The world will see what I meant to them
Too little, too late
But until then
I sit longing for my mate

Moon:
Your light shines on me and you bring me to life
You remind me of who I am
You tell me to stop the fight
But your light is darkened by my presence
Don’t think I’m not aware
Hence, my hesitance
I know my desire is not fair
I can’t take away from who you are
By staying near
When my place is far
This is more than just my fear

I can’t diminish you
Just to please myself
That’s not something I can do
I can’t be that selfish

You call me rare, but I’m a dime a dozen
You are the one and only sun
The one that burns others up, while I leave them frozen

We aren’t meant to meet more than this
We aren’t meant to be more than this
Just an ocassional kiss; just a seasonal eclipse

Sun:
You eclipse me and I see who I truly am
Reflecting off of you and back to me
When you are my nearest land
I am my truest me

My bright and your dark
We meld together in a priceless work of art
Your reflection of my affection equals perfection
That causes the world to try detection and inspection
To figure out our direction
To try to predict our projection
And leave them subjected to their own resources…
While we find each other on our courses
And I’m no longer to blame for their complexions
You’re no longer to blame for their dejection and rejection
But as you start slip away again I must raise my obejection
Don’t leave me here alone again
Don’t disappear around that big, blue bend

Moon:
My love, my light
I have to leave
I can’t survive in day, I was created for the night
You give me life, you give me strength
Even as I slide into the distance I’m never further away
Than God’s arm length

It holds us together like a cable
We are as old as time
Like it says in all the fables
I am yours and you are mine
Even if no one has ever written our nursery rhyme

He created us and then He separated us
It's for His reason
His purpose
We only get to pass each other for a season

Hold tight and don’t let go
And with every ray of hope
Know that I will miss you
Until I next eclipse you
